About Us

Scarborough Harmony Chorus is a women’s chorus singing a cappella music in four part harmony. We are a new chapter of Harmony, Incorporated (International Organization of Women Barbershop Singers) as of March 2019 and are excited to meet our new sisters as we approach our first AC&C (Area Contest and Convention) event with Ontario’s Area 5.

We rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm – 9:30pm, taking only a short break in December for the holidays and then again in June for a summer break. Our rehearsal location is the Red Room, Basement Level, Scarborough Bluffs United Church, 3739 Kingston Road, Scarborough, ON M1J 3H4.

Our rehearsals are open – guests and anyone interested in singing with the chorus may attend any rehearsal. We ask that you RSVP to us so we know to look for you and can help you find our rehearsal hall.

OR fill in this Contact Information Form to get in touch with us.

Originally founded in 1956 as Scarborough Chorus, the organization was part of Sweet Adelines International. Today, Scarborough Harmony Chorus remains active as part of Harmony, Inc., performing locally in Scarborough as well as the Greater Toronto Area. We have performed at such places as Scarborough Town Centre, North York Central Library, Scarborough Civic Centre, Bridlewood Mall, and Centennial College. One of our greatest joys is being able to contribute to our community. We have been pleased to participate in charity fundraising concerts and events for groups such as Sleeping Children Around the World and The Canadian Cancer Society.

Our Director: Dianne Clare

We are so pleased to have Dianne Clare as our director. She has been serving as the front line director of Scarborough Harmony Chorus since 2010. A choral singer and soloist, Dianne has sung a wide array of musical styles, from classical to folk, pop, jazz and barbershop, and has a thorough knowledge of the components that support, enhance and create great sound. She is also a master of vocal technique, which is essential for a cappella groups. She prefers to work with singers in a cappella format, but is also comfortable working with instrumental accompaniment.

Dianne is an active participant in music education events, including music leadership seminars, Harmony, Inc. conferences, music schools, and chorus retreats.  She has attended Harmony University, a week-long vocal music immersion program held annually by the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS).

Dianne also worked for many years as a vocalist and sound mixer, producing high quality vocal music tracks for choral singers to use as a learning aid. Scarborough Harmony Chorus is happy to have this in-house resource for our learning tracks. Her highly trained ear is extremely useful in the mixing and recording process as well as in helping singers with precise interval training. She is a natural teacher, leader, and motivator, who brings out the best in her singers through empowering support, strong technical skills and consistent reinforcement of vocal skill building.

While a life-long entrepreneur operating various business ventures, Dianne has now embarked on a new path to merge her love of music into her business life.  In October 2013, Dianne started DC Vocal Music – a vocal music coaching studio geared towards choral musicians who want to improve their vocal technique, increase their range, and develop confidence in their singing. Dianne also does bookkeeping for several nonprofit organizations.
